in 1977, William Friedkin, director of The Exorcist, released Sorcerer, and no one cared—for a few, dumb, reasons. It openes with 16 minutes of non-english subtitled scenes, and is not about a sorcerer. As such, audiences either left the theatre early, or had gone to see Star Wars instead—as it had just opened and created something of a buzz. Its a shame this 22 million dollar movie only made back half its budget, because its incredibly tense, beautifully shot, has strong performances, and a killer synth score by Tangerine Dream - Band. It also carries one of the most tangible auras of desperation that Ive ever seen in a movie, and the guys went through a hell to make the damn thing that is comparable to that of Apocalypse Now. Available on Amazon streaming, and strongly recommended. https://youtube/watch?v=3BDbIzovuos
