in a tiny village called Kapchemurkeldet in Marakwet East District,an unfortunate incident happened;a parent killed his daughter for the crime of sneaking out at night to meet his sweetheart! This incident hasthrown my hitherto unknown village into the limelighit. My mind rushed back decades ago when I encountered Fyodor Dostoevsky in his popular literary masterpiece Crime and Punishment(1866). I have really asked myself whether the young girl deserved the death punishment subjected to her by her irate parents. Were the parents really justified in killing their daughter for merely sneaking out at night to meet her boyfriend? Is there justifiable anger? Dostoevsky attempts to resolve this conflict arising from justifiable punishment after a crime. Thevillain of his story Crime and Punishment is Raskolnikov, a desperate and impoverished ex- student at St. Petersburg who devices and carries out a plan to kill an unscrupulous pawnbroker, Alyona Ivanovna in order to steal her money.
