in the Wilderness: Another Century or More in Oblivion Near the twilight of age, taking stock of a long life journey, one feels cheated and way short exchanged. As one imbibed, by default, that small cerveau, that perishable little organ inside the skull we born with, with so-called cultural values, mostly, quite often with a governing moral framework of the deterrents of the Taboos of the “Do Not Do;” and the unquestioning submission to the permissible mores of “The Dos” that must be observed, culturally sanctioned and potentially materially and socially rewarded: i.e. climbing to the much coveted summit in a social mobility ladder. In the vanity of youth, with naïve anticipation, I thought I figured it all out even before starting on the first leg of a long journey, that milling long life journey. My Vision, that in the utter of vanity I voted as a fledgling youngster as final and absolute, was the product of a constrained and a parochial setting bound by the limitations of locality, nevertheless, shaped my worldview, my Universal Vision with all the attendant oversimplifications of a never tested reality. I set out in the full assured confidence of the vanity of youth to grab the trophies in the promising wide open field of a world of unlimited possibilities; not to enhance my Vision of the ultimate objective truth but rather to conquer, defeat and acquire. I set out, equipped with that vanity, with the assured correctness of untested value system, the ultimate, to explore the universe, not in search of the truth, detached and objective, but rather to conquer for acquisition in the fulfillment of the insatiable craving for socially condoned material and social accomplishments. Possessed, so I thought at the start of the life journey, all the requisite levers, the needed tools to reach the a balanced fulfillment of material betterment that’s lying ahead, all concurrent with the psychological and emotional fulfillment prescribed and cordoned by the comfort of a deep conviction of possessing a sole monopoly of the truth, our value system and a huge store of inherent social mores. Now, in hindsight near the twilight of age, with the start unpacking of the fradeau, the load of a long journey, one only comes to realize, with no more cards to play, that ALL: values, mores and the good Samaritan Homo Sapien, were all in vain.
