in the day, a very popular TV version that was, obviously, a little on the stupid side...the difference, of course, being that, as opposed to various and sundry Housewives, Kardashians, Kendras, et al, these folks knew, and freely played it, like it was a little on the stupid side..... . BONUS ANECDOTE: somewhere along the way here, the cameo is done by the, then, popular Hawaiian pop singer, Don Ho (very big in the islands in those days, had one pretty big pop hit in the 60s Tiny Bubbles, Google at will).....in the 80s, a talented co-writer friend and I wrote a couple of songs that were recorded by.....well, heres the way I found out on the phone call I got from my co-writer: hey, whats up? wanted to let you know we got a couple of cuts today cool......who? Don Ho (slight pause, followed by my short laugh) ....good one....no, really...who? Don Ho I thought he was dead... nope....cut two of the ballads we sent him how do they sound? Im not sure..... ...uh, okay...youre not sure if theyre good or bad? no, Im not sure if hes drunk or stoned. dude, have you ever heard Don Ho before? actually, no.... not to worry....he sounds like that on purpose....... EPILOGUE: in the following few days/weeks when civilians would ask how the songwriting was going and if we had any action, at least a couple of times, hand to God, some version of the following conversation took place..... hey, whats going on in the songwriting biz these days? actually, we just got a couple of cuts... cool....who? Don Ho no, really....who? Don Ho I thought he was dead...... mahalo, Mr. Ho....RIP....... youtu.be/d85gkOXeXG4
