in the small dark hours today I was awakened by a moth the size of a hummingbird thumping around behind the sliding pane of my bedroom window. half-drunk, mostly-asleep, and fearful for my fragile somnolent psyche, I moved the pane to entrap the moth between the meeting rail and muntin*, plugged my ears to its flitting protest and forced myself back to sleep. when I woke up several hours later, the moth was dead. I felt nothing. *and yeah, I looked up the parts of a window for the sake of this post.
