in this day and age of the world being connected 24/7, and privacy slowly becoming a thing of the past, you forget sometimes that things you say can come back to bite you in the ass or make yourself or others look bad. in the army, you definitely dont want to make anyone look bad especially those that out rank you. right before you go to basic training, your told you will always remember your drill sergeants names and their faces. a drill sergeant is exactly what you think, but on the simplest of levels, they are a teacher. they are the walking talking living image of "lead by example". lead by example goes for everyone in the service, but drill sergeants put a face to that saying. a drill sergeant is an NCO, they are leaders and even after being out of basic for over 2 years, sometimes a drill sergeant still has to put a boot to ass. not in the physical sense, but in more of "hey, your an idiot. stop being a jackass". its those small reminders like that, that make you remember that someone is always watching and its easier today than it has ever been. its also a good reminder to remember that being a drill sergeant is a 3 year duty and after that they return to, for lack of a better term, the regular army and you never know, you could wake up one morning to go to work and your old drill sergeant is now your platoon sergeant and the last thing you want to do is make your drill sergeant who is now your platoon sergeant look bad. i rather piss off god himself. sometimes, we do become idiots from time to time, but there is always going to be something or someone to slap you back into reality.
