is back from the beach and settling into reality....at least until Tys tournament at the beach next weekend. This is going to be a LONNNNG post, so be warned. Fred understands if you have a life to live and cant read the rest. :-) As many of you know, this past weekends tournament marked the end of the 2014 season for Freds 13U Maryland Warriors team. It also marked the closing of Freds head coaching time which began 18 short years ago. It doesnt mean that hes walking away from baseball or the Maryland Warriors program. That would be like deciding to stop breathing. However, its time to focus on being a fan, which will be VERY hard in many respects, as he follows Tyler and David with Team PowerUPs tournament team, as player and coach, respectively. This will mean some travel up and down the east coast for the remainder of the summer, watching Ty play against some of the best players in the country. As for Freds team, he wants to thank each of the young men for their heart, their desire, their willingness to do as they are coached, (usually, that is. For those times where they didnt, Fred wants to thank Rolaids for such a wonderful product). Baseball is so much more than on field accomplishments, but this team won two games last season. This year, they won 37 games and lost just 7. They also won a tournament and came back with 4 runs in the last inning to advance and finish in the top four teams this past weekend. However, the best part of being around these guys is seeing the way they conducted themselves off the field. So many times, this year, umpires, coaches, players and other teams parents came up to Fred to compliment the respect, class and professionalism that they brought to the field. Fred couldnt agree more. These young men are going to do great things, not just in baseball, but in life. For example, after their wild comeback on Sunday morning, Fred saw the players working with a 6 year old boy, teaching him how to hit. The look on this young boys face as these 13 year old real baseball players, (his words, not Freds), was as if he was working with major league players. Yeah, thats the kind of team Fred had. And finally, Fred had two of the best Assistant Coaches in Rob Hatcher and Milt Hauser that any coach could want. Many times during this season, Fred has used the words, Freds team. Well, it was so much more than Freds team. It was OUR team and we were only good because of these coaches dedication and their willingness to do whatever it took to make these young men better. So, Fred apologizes for the length of this post, but walking off the baseball field is always, ALWAYS hard to do for Fred. And when it means the end of a great run like this team had, its that much harder. For those people asking if Fred will still do personal instruction, umpiring or other baseball activities, the answer is YES. All you need to do is call. More on that in another post. For now.....Happy Tuesday everybody. And....GO WARRIORS!!
