is recovering from Empire. Those of you who have no interest in silly LARP shenanigans: move along, theres nothing to see. For the rest. Im not going to do a Hot/Not: partly because I hate following trends, mostly because the weather was Hot and I would rather it was Not. However: Good things: Wonderful role-play with all manner of people especially those in Felixs Watch. The wonderful way people were so welcoming and lovely to the girls (again) with special thanks for crayons, books*, mosaic tiles and story-times. Watching Delilah (Ellie) come second-but-really-first** in the Sports Day bridge-fighting then later seeing her get a special award for Persistence and Grit. Picking up a plot-in-a-box and running wilfully in the wrong direction (aided wonderfully by the aforementioned Delilahs misplaced loyalty). Wonderful role-play over said plot-in-a-box. Seeing old friends in new guises, if sometimes only for a moment. Being complimented on my costume, and the girls last-minute-addition caps (note to parents: muslin cap, soaked in water and wrung out = perfect child-cooling device). Finally getting to try one of Rebs Macaroons and finding that it was every bit as good as it looked. The kindness of friends and more-than-kind hospitality of Chiara and Morgan (you have to come and visit *our* new house when we have it, guys). Bad things: The heat. Oh dear gods the heat. Special mention must be made of heat *so* fierce that I was almost incapable of eating during day and was thus forced to stare with queasy longing at Russ and Rebs amazing food (although chilled gazpacho and lemonade did a lot to fix that). The heat again. Because it was that bad. Phib getting upset every evening because she didnt want to leave, then eventually collapsing in overwrought, overheated tears during take-down (sorry I had to take her back to the car everyone: I hope Richard and Ellie pulled my weight as well as their own). We are now a family of wobbly zombies, but we had such a good time that Im sure Ive missed some things. Sorry to anyone Ive inadvertently snubbed. *And my book too! ** This is a point of Pride.
