is thinkin about what a special place the Times Change(d) is, and how special it is to so many people, many of whom are far-flung in this country. Thinkin about just how big its arms are. Thinking also how, the same way some people look for the spirit when they attend a service at a new church, I find myself looking for the spirit of Times when I enter a bar for the first time. How many times have I been in a bar (or a bar in someones home... Ye Olde Jar Bar, anyone?) and simultaneously had two thoughts: This place is stamped with individual soul(s). It immediately feels like home to me. I can be myself here, and This feels like Times. Times Change(d) is a poem, a family, a ferocious solo, a Fender feedback, a piece of Texas, a Winnipeg heart, a community, a sanctuary, a soul, a sanctum - its a club where life is beautiful - in short, its what every bar wishes it was. So for me to be, not just invited to play the Saturday night of the 13th Anniversary celebrations, but flown from Toronto to do so, is an honour I need to take a deeper breath for. Its the kind of honour its a little scary, its so good. 10 years ago I played a New Years Eve at Times and that was the first time I met Jason Nowicki (I opened for The D. Rangers and The Perps that night), whos playing with me tonight. That was also the first time I met Ryan Menard, also joining me tonight. On drums is Joanna Miller, so the love I have for this band is invincible. Ten years ago I was invited into the hearts that orbit around this beautiful honky tonk, and I feel very lucky today to know that Im an honorary Winnipeger. I love this town. I love this community. I love Times, and I love Winnipeg John Scoles! If my words resonate at all with your own love and pride, maybe Ill see you this evening. Were playing an early show at 7 pm (big fat set) and then playing two 45 min. sets later on, starting at 10. Two shows, and one bar for which there is no substitute! Long live the spirit of the Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club! May that spirit find all of you tonight, however far from Main and St. Mary you may be.
