it has been a LOOOONG 10 days, and i know some of you are wondering where i am and how i did at the Round Top spring event - sorry to ignore your emails and FB messages but internet was very spotty the entire time and i had a few periods of depression as well..... :-) - making things even worse. so let me just say it was one heckuva learning experience but in the end was very positive. in the beginning i thought having a solo spot on the main highway would be perfect - everyone would see me, and everyone did, i had easy pull in drives on both sides - so i saw head after head turn to look at my work but very very few stopped. i thought this was a good way to get started and not be in the main areas that are expensive to be in. well, that was not to be. now i realize people want to go to one area, park, and walk for a couple of hours. lesson learned. then i met a man that owns half of the county, nice gentleman, and he really liked my work and offered me a deal on a small open spot that he happened to have in front of the house he once lived in in the square in Round Top where he rents out several dozen spots. so i then moved 18 of 23 pieces there and things changed a lot. instead of 4 or 5 people stopping per day, i had 4 or 5 every 5 minutes. still didnt sell a lot - but still sold enough to cover all costs - but its the way it goes - you have to establish yourself there and cant expect to sell a lot on your first time. people return each year and expect to see certain vendors each visit, so first-timers are at a disadvantage. but what is really cool is how all the vendors work together, and i was really warmed by their acceptance of me. pretty cool to be setting up on saturday morning and some 65 guy shoves a bloody mary in my hands as a welcome token. AND i could have made a ton of $$$ charging for people to pet Brady! what a chick-magnet that dog was! my lovely wife Karen came out and helped, and i got visits from other friends and my favorite niece Hannah Hubbard! i even saw old friends from college days that somehow remembered me from 35 yrs ago..... all in all i take a lot of positives from the way my work was received - tons and tons of positive comments, fellow vendors tell me to keep at it - and one of the only 2 or 3 negative comments (too pricey) came from a guy wearing a WalMart hat. nuf said. :-) again - thanks to all!
