its getting to be a pain in the hole now ffs...pm Everton reject third Manchester United bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines MANCHESTER UNITED last night failed with a THIRD attempt to sign Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini as Everton rejected a £36m joint bid. Everton slammed a “derisory and insulting” joint offer of £28m for Belgium midfielder Fellaini and England left-back Baines earlier this month. And boss Roberto Martinez told the pair to think again. United’s latest offer has been upped by £8m, but Goodison chiefs have told the Red Devils it is still short of their valuation of the pair. United boss David Moyes will now have to consider whether to return his former club with a fourth bid after having his fingers burnt again. Moyes may wait until January to move for Fellaini after sources close to the Belgian revealed the £23.6m buy-out clause in his contract, which expired at the end of July, is reactivated on January 1. Everton boss Martinez is desperate to hang on to the duo and has warned the pair that life at Old Trafford might not be the bed of roses they think it is. He said: “Every time you have a good player, if you’re going to expect to lose him, it is because they think that the grass is always greener elsewhere. “Of course players will always like that next challenge to go to play Champions League football and win trophies. “Every time you have a good player, if you’re going to expect to lose him, it is because they think that the grass is always greener elsewhere” Roberto Martinez “But there are other great stories about that. Michael Owen leaves Liverpool to go to Real Madrid to win trophies and Liverpool win the Champions League. In football nothing is guaranteed.” Everton are keen to open talks with Baines over a new contract and Martinez insists the player has never sought a transfer to United. Everton have still drawn up plans if they lose either, or both, of the players closer to the September 2 midnight deadline. The Toffees have sounded out Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry over a switch to Goodison. Barry has been told he has no future at the Etihad Stadium by City chief Manuel Pellegrini.
