its important to know to be gentle on the land. Long ago we lived quietly in small groups, moving often so that we did not drain the resources completely from an area. We lived in small groups, only large enough to ensure that lands could easily recover. So knowing what your lands can sustain without damage is part of knowing the land itself. Settlement was hard on our lands but we lived this way at the convenience of Indian Affairs policy and social programs and we see the impacts of that today. I sincerely hope we learned.
