ive been thinking... why is the divorce rate so high? I think part of it it is pretty simple, people like to party and have fun but once the fun / excitement wears off and the hard work begins people arent used to putting in the effort. Somewhere they came up with the idea that life is supposed to be fun. Hmmmm, I wonder where that idea comes from? Yikes... I look back at how I raised my girls and honestly the hardest part for me, was asking them to do things I knew they didnt want to do. I was often ruled by their whining or what would make them whoop with delight. In the times when I cognitively chose to accept the whining, crying, hunched shoulders, pouting, dragging feet, disappointed face etc, I was set free to ask them to do what they really should do and needed to do and we all benefitted. When I didnt, I was resentful and they were most often blissfully and innocently unaware that there was something that needed to be done or they felt guilty for being lazy. Everyone likes to feel accomplished and be praised for a job well done! Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. The younger a child is when they learn to work hard and learn that life isnt all fun and games the better/easier it will be for everyone. Being a hard worker is a life long gift and blessing you can give them that they will take wherever they go. Everything worthwhile in life takes effort. 2 Thessalonians 3: 10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 1 Timothy 4:7 ... train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe. 11 Command and teach these things. 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. 15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
