ive never been that great at deflecting attention from someone showing interest in me when its not mutual. usually i just try to keep it friendly without encouraging them, to see if theyll settle for friendship or just let it fade out. today was a milestone for me though.. a persistent fellow who has my business card, calls regularly (always bad timing too) asking me out. he called asking me out to an even tonight, i politely declined.. he asked about tomorrow night (geesh).. i declined telling him i might be working.. he then asked about the weekend ( he wasnt giving up!) and as i tried explaining that ive just been too busy, he then asked , well WHEN would i have time to go out.. (omg). so the conversation ended on a very awkward note. not wanting to call him and invite a drawn out conversation i took a deep breath and texted him (okay, so here goes being direct and hones).. i let him know that i wasnt looking for anything more than friendship and was getting to know someone.. and wanted to see where it might go with her. so.. the reply came, he was of course cool with being friends. then it registered what i said.. his attempt to be cool about my dating preference was sort of cute, lol..
