jUNE, 2014:Ronald Heighton didn’t know Monday afternoon whether he’d be going fishing today. The River John, Pictou County, commercial fisherman was waiting, along with many others in northern Nova Scotia, to hear whether anyone would be willing to buy his catch if he landed it this afternoon. “Yes, I would imagine it is,” he responded, when asked if the situation is stressful. Large landings in the spring fishery on the province’s south-west coast, which closed last week, and in the northern areas of the province have put storage space for lobsters in Nova Scotia at a premium. “Empty lobster crates are a collector’s item right now,” said Stewart Lamont, managing director of Tangier Lobster Company Ltd. in Tangier, on the Eastern Shore. “The landings have been bountiful and the buyers need to clear the decks.”
