just a messy brain dump: kids are noisy and irresponsible because they dont have real responsibilities. Too much energy + no bills to pay. Your only job is school doesnt work if a parent cant actually fire the kid. Why cant we give kids bills to pay? Lol. Think about that one. smart slacker calls his parents bluff on this- me leaving home costs you more than it costs me, even though itll actually be good for me. Rich parents can dangle threat of withholding inheritance. Some poor parents enforce compliance with violence, etc... youve already lost if youre doing that. There has to be a better way to think about educating little humans, in the broader and deepest sense of the world- being economically useful + making the world a better place for others (by, for instance, STFUing in public spaces). Mainly Im thinking about how having bills and a mortgage to pay have forced me to grow up to a degree that school and parenting never did, and Im wondering what we might learn from that. Its all about environment, skin in the game, actual responsibility, actual accountability, effort -> stuff done -> fulfillment...
