Studies have shown that communication is made up of 3 elements. 55% of your communication is non-verbal (body-language, eye-contact, facial expression, etc.). 38% is made up of vocal elements (tone, pitch, resonance, etc.). And a surprisingly low, 7% of your communication is made up of the actual words that you use. (Albert Mehrabian) Which means that on facebook or email or text messages, youre getting just around 7% of the persons intended message. The rest is up for you to infer - which may be easier to do if you know the person very well. Not so easy if you dont. Things like sarcasm and wit dont always come through as expected. Expressions such as lol and emoticons do tend to help, but only very little. Because my lol may be a pretentious sounding laugh to someone interpreting it. So what does this mean? NEVER take a flipping thing you read on here seriously.
