just getting around to watching Northern soul and Ive had to pause it to share this, although I was too young for the Northern scene the story still is resonating with me! Reminds me of tales of two of my most influential Bloxwich DJs and pals - Colin and Gary Col used to tell me tales about being inspired by seeing and hearing Gaz play these Soul & first gen Mod tunes down at their local youth club. Great hearing Backstreet when they go into the record shop. To be honest I was first introduced to this record via Neils inferno cover by Tina lewis and if Im honest I do prefer that version as I like the female vocal and the instrumental backing, but its just ignited fond memories of listening to these great tunes back at Cols house, then meeting and hearing tunes over at Garys often until daylight the next morning. Hope the rest of the film ignites these kind of memories? You dont have to have been there to still be inspired, and hopefully when someone does a proper movie like this about the scene I grew up in some of the younger DJs will still find memories in the tales I often tell.
