just moved the horses into a field with a few cattle, if any of you have cattle or sheep or even if you could borrow sheep off a neighbour it will be of great benefit to your grassland management system. To put it very simply, cattle and sheep will eat what your horses dont. It is an excellent natural way of weed control! Horses are selective grazers, overgrazing their favorite areas of a pasture while leaving other plants to grow tall If you have a choice - use sheep instead of cattle as even in wet periods sheep will cause less damage and poaching Horses have a different grazing behaviour compared to cattle and sheep - cattle will eat longer grass and can then be followed by horses. As you can see with my strip grazing there are two wires - the first allows the calves under to graze first. Most importantly grazing with cattle and sheep reduces the build up of worm larvae and eggs by breaking the life cycle of the equine internal parasites.
