just posted this comment on news24: I am fascinated that so many Afrikaners seem to positively identify with Snowden. I suspect a little guy facing up to a big powerful government, stirs something in the powerless Afikaner facing up to a perceived hostile ANC government. But that really is a ludicrous take on the Snowden saga. Snowden crossed the line when he revealed the secrets of the West to the real enemies of human rights, Russia, China and the theocracies of the Middle East. Snowden could and should have revealed the secrets to the substantial liberal/libertarian lobby in the West. But he evidently was too grandiose, and decided to fly solo, hoping to become and Assange-like celebrity and many of my fellow Afrikaners do not get that. The governments of the West are the real and only enemies of tyrants like Mugabe and religious extremists that would take the world back a thousand years. So I can understand why e.g. Mugabe and religious extremists would be Snowden fans, but my fellow Afrikaners? To each his own. If you really think Snowden is a hero, do some introspection. Is the real "Big Brother is watching you" a bigger problem in the West, or in Russia and China? For me the answer is obvious. Read the full article:
