just walked in the door 20 minutes ago. Dermatologist measured and took pictures of my forehead lesion, also looked over my whole body to make sure there were no other areas. She noted the small area on my cheekbone and was horrified that primary doctor had cut it last time. She said there had been no need for that. She noted that the area on forehead is pretty deep, and at this point in time thinks it is still basal cell carcinoma. I am supposed to return January 2 when Obamacare kicks in. They are going to do what is called Mohs surgery. See link below. Pretty basically what happens is they apply a paste to my lesion, fixing the cancer cells in place. They excise a small portion of skin and examine it under microscope to see if cancer cells are there. If so, then they re-apply paste, excise another small portion, and repeat process until no more cancer cells remain. Years ago they did it with scalpel but from what I understand JH Hospital has a laser procedure which is done almost entirely by computer. skincancer.org/skin-cancer-information/mohs-surgery/evolution-of-mohs the dermatologist said there was an almost 98% success rate with the Mohs surgery that my cancer wont return.
