last of the random pics from the motherland: - when i pass away, i DO NOT want you guys to make me a darga (shrine) for my grave okay??!!!! but if you do, i want strobe lights, a ticketing system, and darudes sandstorm playing in the background! lol. in all seriousness, i think a majority of us do not support this practice. at the same time, do understand that these people might indeed have been pious and most likely did not want such shrines for their place of rest. Allahu allam. - im not a big baller frequent flyer with business class privileges, but Ive been on my share of international airline carriers: etihad, emirates, lufthansa, qatar, royal jordanian, saudi airlines. service is great on all and not that i need the extra leg room lol but qatar has THE roomiest economy seats IMO. - when my dear uncle passed away in 2013, our family decided to give (and continue to inshaAllah) towards the building of a masjid on his behalf. on my trip, i had a chance to visit this masjid/madrasa (actually visited 3 that were being built) which was located hours away in a very rural area. point of note: the term madrasa usually carries a different connotation for us here in america. over there, these madrasas are living/breathing social welfare programs. almost all the kids that stay there are orphans/poor/needy and these places give them an opportunity to learn and get educated and inshaAllah one day make something of themselves. duas for them. recognize the amazing work happening everywhere. alhamdulillah. - poverty and deplorable conditions exist everywhere in the world. you can do one of the following: 1. get sad, fall into a state of despair and hopelessness, question Allah, act like it doesnt exist where YOU live, and/or just talk about it 2. reflect on what Allah has given YOU, be grateful, contribute (whether financially or volunteering wise) to better the situation, and/or take some type of action the choice is yours. - had a chance to visit the salar jung museum which contained the private collection of the salar jung family. just google all the galleries and historical artifacts they have in there. very impressive. - my favorite sundae was the LEWINSKY and favorite dessert on the menu was a tie between the one shorts three birds and california beauty. lol. - the birth of the Rasul (S) is celebrated in different ways around the world. in india, some people go ALL OUT. because my family doesnt celebrate in such extreme fashion(alhamdulillah), were referred to in our neighborhood as wahabis and pakoray. LOL. the irony with the lights on the streets is that people are celebrating the birth of Rasul(S) by...illegally tapping into government-owned electrical lines without permission.
