lbfunkfest Come out and see @scott tranquil-Knowledge Beachley play with the Funk Angels @1:30pm! Funk Angels WHERE CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT CLASSIC AMERICAN MUSIC An education as cool as the music itself, the Jazz Angels in collaboration with the Long Beach Funk Fest and the DLBA are going beyond jazz and launching this new program with a performance at the Funk Fest on 7/6. Funk Fest organizer Bobby Easton created the idea for the theFUNKangels along with Justin Hectus (Downtown Long Beach Business Association) and Barry Cogert (Jazz Angels Executive Director). Funk music is a crucial component of our American history and a transitional form of art linking jazz to soul, R&B, disco and rock and roll as well as contemporary forms of music such as and hip hop and house music. For whatever reason, school music programs have overlooked Funk music education. In an effort to bring the education and awareness of this style of music to our young people the organizations above are excited to announce theFUNKangels youth band live and in concert on 7/6 with fall programming beginning in September, 2013 theFUNKangels Will offer children ages 10-17 a performance based education about this truly American musical genre. They don’t just learn to play the music; they learn about its rich history and get to interact with working funk musicians and educators. Sessions include eight rehearsals and two concerts where kids with at least 6 months experience get specialized, individual attention. Sheet music is arranged to suit the ability of the musicians. Professional musicians play in the bands so the students can model their style and technique. At theFUNKangels you’ll find a group of amazing, young musicians engaged in an art they truly call their own. jazzangel.org or email, [email protected] ph. 562-223-0086 Come hear our performance at the Funk Fest on 7/6 Our Mission: TheJazzAngels creates an environment for the youth of Long Beach to develop self-confidence and leadership skills while learning, playing and preserving jazz through professional musical mentoring.
