#lejgutiyesfi #sedin_o_edin Year 1978:In an examination of ‘Engineering Faculty’,1978 , the engineering drawing question paper was so set that no one was able to answer properly. Many walked out of the examination hall early , who were soon followed by the rest. Everyone spontaneously demanded , how come such an impractical paper was set. In the general body meeting that was held , with almost 600 students participating , it was decided by the students that , the vice chancellor would be asked to look into the issue and deal with it at the earliest and the students would stay put till a decision was made. Thus a ‘sit-in- demonstration’ started in ‘Aurobinda Bhawan ‘ ,Jadavpur University. In spite of the Left Front Government the University Authority was not as much politically inclined but were majorly sympathizer of Congress . And it remained so till 1985 , after the ‘Model University Act’ of 1980 was cleared for implementation , in Jadavpur University by the Court. And further the students and authority shared a harmonious relationship outside the political difference . It was thought that in an attempt to thwart the movement the CPI(M) decided to use police force hoping that the anger would get directed towards the authority. The police entered the campus , as the slogan and sit-in-demonstration was going on . They charged in a way not to disperse but to hit the students. They blocked all exits and beat the students black and blue. The aggravated students regrouped and then started ‘one of the longest movements in the history of Jadavpur University’. The anger was directed both towards the CPI(M) and the authority. To add to this , the SFI members who were surprisingly not noticed on the day of violence , turned up distributing leaflets at the gates , the very next day. The students decided to ‘sack the vice chancellor ‘. The entire Aurobinda Bhawan was Gheraoed for 22 consecutive days and the vice chancellor was not allowed to enter his office. After which the authority resorted to resolve the issue amicably. YEAR 2014 : As quoted by Nirjhar Mukherjee-During todays movement, the most conspicuous act was perhaps that of SFI- their blatant and dastardly retreat from the movement the moment they smelled possibilities of unrest, arrest or possible consequences! 1st class cowards and traitors to the movement! Let us mark them. SFI- see, while you have fled, hundreds truly fight patriarchy looking eye to eye with police and other opponents!
