A local witness told 3 News flames can be seen in a row trees behind houses in the small town, which is around 25km north of Christchurch. Four fire engines are reportedly at the scene while the main thoroughfare, Dunns Ave, is lined with people taking photographs. The witness told 3 News smoke is drifting through many homes nearby.
