let democracy be unfettered in our beloved bangladesh. since time immemorial people of bangladesh have lived in socio political environment of consensus. it is not from the british that we have learnt democracy.democratic ethos ,embodied in gram panchayet , have since ancient times , formed and reformed our collective psyche.the essence of our liberation was democracy.it was the movement for democracy against dictator ayub that morphed into the war of liberation. Yet for the last one year ie after the sham election in january last year and installation of illegitimate government on the basis of that non existent mandate democracy in bangladesh has been brutally chained.and is now welnigh crucified by the arrogance and machinations of awami league.inspite of well meaning advice by international community and world powers, this government without mandate ,keeps clinging to power instead of creating an atmosphere for dialogue for a free and fair election.every means of peacefull protest has been mercilessly thwarted and suppressed by employing all the organs of the state. misgovernance , autocracy , ludicrousness of this regime undoubtedly have surpassed those of infamous bachha e sakko of afghanistan of twenties of the last century.but this unfortunate happenings have also put our national existence at stake. under these dire circumstances it is only natural that people will go into all out movement at the call of opposition leader ms khaleda zia.and that they have done so with unflinching resolution -particularly the valiant youth. in my previous post I warned that nature abhors vacuum.if peaceful protests such as mass gatherings, freedom of speech and other legitimate forms are thwarted by brutal means then other forms of protest will occupy in their places .this will not be palatable for any one.pet medias ridiculous reportings of normalcy aside,we all know,as does the whole world, things are not in normal shape in bangladesh. what the people want is a fresh, free and fair election and definitely not putting bnp into power by force. awami league was born in the tradition of democracy.but unfortunately this party has been accused of aberration into autocracy in the past(baksal) and its fateful sojourn into that pit fall is evidently manifest now. But if awami league has to do politics in this country then it has no other alternative but to comply with democratic norms, better still help the building of democratic institutions in bangladesh and participate in saving this country.
