( lets talk about BMI royalties) Somewhere back in 1993 a song - TopicsExpress

( lets talk about BMI royalties) Somewhere back in 1993 a song was given to me by Jimmy Johnson from Muscle Shoals sound. He told me he had this song called, Drinking Whiskey Straight, he told me his library of music was not traditional country, but more rhythm and blues. He said he had heard my vocals, and he thought that this particular song would fit my style of singing, he also said he thought it was a number one hit, and said he believed it would get a lot of airplay, so I took this song and recorded it. Several weeks later Travis Tritt had a song that he had recorded by the Eagles called Take it Easy, it was number 1 on cash box charts at that time. I got a call to come down to the office, and when I got there I found that Drinking Whiskey Straight had topped the charts, pushing Travis Tritt to number 13 on the charts , and became a number one hit for me. So I said all of that to get to my point. Did it do me any good to join BMI music group? No, not one bit. I have been calling them since 1993, about many songs that I have written and recorded, when I could get them to answer the phone. So I finally get a return call from them today, and they tell me they cannot even find me in their system. I have here at home, all of the documentation that I am a BMI member , but they tell me they cant find me in their system, and let me tell you why they would say that. I was never on a major label , I was on an Independent label, so what little royalties I had coming, they took them from me, that is how these big music people stay in business, on the backs of all of the Independent acts. (So) it is a waste of time and money to join the BMI group, do not let anyone tell you that it is going to help you, because if you do have royalties coming, you will never see them. Drinking Whiskey Straight, was written by Jimmy Richards, it was written for George Jones, but George did not record it and they gave it to me. I am someone that will tell you the truth. There are a lot of gold diggers in the music business, and I know a bunch of them. I will be removing my membership from BMI very soon, it was money spent for nothing. But I would like to thank you, my fans that do enjoy my traditional style of country singing. God bless....
