Efficient management who answer email queries quickly and prompt. Their website is easy to navigate and contact is perfect. We made payment ahaed of arrival through a Europe bankaccount. We booked all our train tickets through this hotel with an extra charge of Rs 150 per ticket. Got all the trains at the class we wanted, and all at the exact adates we wanted. We were unable to manage to make our own bookings through the difficults Indian process. We arranged airport pickup through the hotel for an extra Rs 900. Our driver met us at the airport with a paper in his hand, our names were spelled correctly. It was a lovely drive and we got a enjoyable view of the surroundings. Slowly driving to Varanasi. The AC car was comfortable and clean, it was a nice welcome to Varanasi. We had to get used to driving on the other side of the road. They use the British system. Wouldnt want to drive myself as it is hectic with a lot of noise and they use their horns constantly. Luckely our driver only used the horn when really needed. Cars can’t drive right up to the hotel so they dropped us in town. Upon dismounting his car, we were greeted by 2 small young man. They offered to carry our luggage to the hotel. A 20 minute walk down the main road through smal alleys with our backpacks. Heat from the sun soaking right through to our backs: a real difference from the cold European weather! We didn’t know where to look first and just followed the young boy through masses of people, motorbikes and cows and cows and cows… turn left, turn left, turn right, keep going, turn right, turn left, etc… Doubted if ever I would be able to find our way back, but we did as old Varanasi isn’t that hard to explore. Access to the guest house is through a maze of alleys and so it makes sense to get picked up at the airport or station so someone can guide you in! I thought Italy was crazy, but it was nothing compared to this! It was truly mental, busy, dirty, beautiful, noisy, colourful, but in the end: just awesome! Really liked Ganpati guesthouse, the great advantage of this guest house is that it is right on the ghats. The staff are friendly. We booked 2 rooms (number 10 and 11) as there was little difference in price compared to adding 2 extra beds to our room. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the Ganges with a shared balcony. The room was small and basic but spotlessly clean and the beds were some of the most comfortable we have slept in. A bit hard, but that seems to be common in India. There was also a TV and in room wifi which we found to be reliable. The view of the Ganges on the first floor was amazing, it was nice to be looking at the Ganges and I could spend ages people watching there. The best view is from the roof terrace. There is also space in the courtyard and in the outdoor corridors to relax. You can leave yor luggage at the front desk on departure day. The rooftop restaurant is a great place to hang out. We didn’t want to explore eating options in town to take the risk of getting sick on our first day in India! Service was excellent, especially the meal we had at night, one of the best tali’s weve eaten in India for a cheap price of Rs 150 each! It was nice to sit on the roof terrace and enjoy the view. Breakfast was good and made to order. We had pancake, omelette and fruit. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. The hotel is very conveniently located to most things we wanted to see. The hotel give a little map so can easely find your way around. We loved the area around the hotel, felt very safe wandering around. It’s only 100 m from Dashashwamedh Ghat, where the evening fire puja takes place. Being April we could walk our way from ghat to ghat. The height of the river varies massively during the year. But from February to June you can walk along the ghats for miles, whereas after the monsoon you will need to walk via the inland streets as the river will have risen 20 feet or more. We didn’t organise any tours because we do like to wander around ourselves. This way we may not see all there is to see but we do get a feeling about the sphere in the city. We also found the tours expensive. We took use of the transport biy tuktuk to the trainstation for Rs 300. Would happily choose this hotel again.
