long night, you are a ragged bird, perched in the dark heart of the sunken year. deep air, cold rust of stars, the moon-eye casts long shadows to stain the perfect snow. winter wends. the yellow-eye, the wolf, licks the smoke of your fire. his fierce love is not for you. long night, his shadow and the sleepless self prowl, hunt, and are the hunted; feint and tear, sweat and fear, cleaving the shape of their strange disturbance in the snow. the uneasy fox has dreamt in red and trembles in his hole. the murderous crows curse and flail the early air east leaks a pale, thin wound of dawn.
