Queensland Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DESTRUCTIVE WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in parts of the Gympie Council Area. Issued at 4:52 pm Wednesday, 17 December 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:45 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Toolara. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north to northeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach, Wide Bay, Inskip and Inskip Point by 5:15 pm. Destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Golf ball size hail was observed at Kin Kin and Belli Park (southwest of Cooroy) between 4-4:30pm. 2cm hail was observed at Kenilworth at 3:50pm. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 5:50 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Wide Bay and Burnett and parts of the Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Northwest, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219.
