maku_61 APGA Unveils Maku As Guber Candidate For Nasarawa Donatus Nadi — Jan 4, 2015 | 2 Comments The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State yesterday officially unveiled the former minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku as its gubernatorial candidate in a grand ceremony held at the Manyi Royal Suites, Jos road, Lafia. The state chairman of the party, Chief John Amakor, said the party gave the ticket to Mr Maku after due consideration of his vast wealth of experience and political clout having served in various positions as commissioner, deputy governor and minister of the federal republic since return to democracy in 1999. Chief Amakor also took advantage of the occasion to clear the air on the raging controversy surrounding the candidature of Mr Maku assuring that the national secretariat of APGA has certified him as the undisputed torch bearer of the party ahead of the February 28th guber election. Giving reasons for his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Maku alleged that there was a gang up against his candidature even as he accused party officials of conniving to threaten delegates, hide others and alter the delegates list to ensure he lose. He also accused the PDP and APC-led government in Nasarawa State of working to make sure he did not get APGA’s ticket, saying they went as far as threatening the leadership of the party in the state. “The struggle to ensure that I did not become candidate of APGA is emanating from the government house in Lafia; there is no place they have not gone; they have threatened APGA leadership in the state”. Maku, who named Alhaji Ibrahim Abu, an Alago man from Obi local government as his running mate, attributed the gang up against him to fear of his ability and tested leadership qualities which has endeared him to the electorates. “They know more than anybody that when it comes to vision, leadership, capacity to express that vision and mobilize to get people moving, they know I have the capacity and that is why they are all jittery”, he boasted. Maku, who stressed that he is on a rescue mission in Nasarawa, argued that governorship position should move to the northern senatorial zone of the state with the southern and western zone having occupied the position for a period of eight years each.
