mar gayaa sadmah-e-yak-junbish-e lab se Ghalib naa-tavaani se hariif-e-dam-e-issi na hua ~Ghalib مر گیا صدمۂ یک جنبشِ لب سے غالب نا توانی سے حریفِ دمِ عیسی نہ ہوا मर गया सदमह-ए यक-जुनबिश-ए लब से ग़ालिब ना-तवानी से हरीफ़-ए दम-ए `ईसी न हुआ The shock of the movement of the lips killed me the weakness in me was stronger than the life giving breath of Jesus sadmah = shock yak = one jumbish = movement lab = lips naa-tavaani = weakness hareef = equal dam = breath issi = poetical shortening of Isa or Jesus Muslim aur Isaai riwaayat mein Hazrat Isa (Jesus) ko ye karishma ataa kiya gayaa ke woh murde mein jaan phoonk sakte hain. Hazrat Isa jis ke upar dua paRh dete (ya dum kar dete) woh agar murda ho toh zinda ho jaaye aur agar beemaar ho to beemariyon se nijaat pa jaaye. dam e issi se Hazrat Isa ki isi khoobi ki taraf ishaara hai. Isa ke labon ki jumbish ne kaam aisa tamaam kiya ke uss ke baad jo dua nikli (jis ke liye honton ne jumbish ki thi) woh bekar gayi. Yaani ke woh mutaharrik hont ka samne hona aisa dilkash nazaara thaa ke dil uss ki taab na laa saka aur mareez ki jaan nikal gayi, aur uss ke baad un mutaharrik honthon se jo dua nikli woh bhi mareez ko maut ki neend se waapis na laa paye. Is ko aise bhi dekh sakte hain ke jumbish karte honth mehbooba ke thhey jin ko dekh kar dil taab na laa saka aur jaan nikal gayi. Aur jaan aisi nikli ki Hazrat Isa ka karishma bhi uss ko waapis zinda na kar paaya. In the Christian and Muslim traditions we find that the prophet Jesus was given the ability to bring the dead back to life with his breath. The breath of Jesus here seems like a metaphor. It could be the voice of the beloved or maybe the beloved is compared to Jesus because she can restore life to her lover with a word from her lips. However, the lover is in such a bad state that the mere movement of the lips is enough to kill him. His condition was so bad that the magic words which came after the movement of the lips were not strong enough to revive the beloved from his death-sleep.
