#marcwithacsongoftheday A live version of a sleeper favorite. I - TopicsExpress

#marcwithacsongoftheday A live version of a sleeper favorite. I tell the story in pretty accurate detail on this recording, so going into further detail of the origins would be redundant, superfluous and a third thing. I can tell you that I didnt have much faith in the song when it was written, because... well, if you are able to believe it, there was a time when Id try to keep stage banter to a minimum. This was written around a time when Id found that running my mouth at shows wasnt terribly beneficial to my personal life, and Id become a little bit too transparent for the tastes of an ex-partner. For this reason, I would allow room for a few HOW YA DOIN, DETROIT type things, a stray observation about whatever venue/crowd I was playing to, and a scant few scripted intros to songs. I also found that it was detrimental to some songs working onstage at all. For example, Amy, Its Kevin is an okay song, but its way better when you know where it came from. (And selfishly, because every time I use the pronoun I in a song, people seem to think Im talking about myself, and its always been a struggle to find a way to communicate that the actions in a song arent necessarily something that I actually did, but rather an action Id more than likely observed or was able to put myself in the shoes of a character displaying said attitudes and actions. Youll certainly want to take note of that for some things that might come out in the future, eh?) Getting back to this tune, I didnt have a ton of faith in a simple acoustic version of it without constantly retelling the backstory, so it went through a number of incarnations. Started off with guitar and voice, mutated into a demo that was full of out of tune keyboards, drum machines and bass guitar, and then it hurriedly became the version you probably know best from the This World Is Scary As... or RetroLowFi albums. I decided to say screw it and release it as it was because at the end of the day, I liked it, and I thought that if I enjoyed it, someone else was bound to be entertained by it as well. This version of Amy, Its Kevin is available on the limited double vinyl set called The Real Live Sound Of Marc With a C, which is also available on CD and pay-what-you-want download here: marcwithac.bandcamp/album/the-real-live-sound-of-marc-with-a-c
