memes control human behavior, away from our natural genetically evolved behavior. were the only species on the planet whose behavior is controlled almost entirely by memes instead of genetically evolved instincts. as long as all the species in a biosphere behave based on their genetically evolved instincts, everything is usually in balance, because their genetically evolved behavior has evolved to fit into the balance of life in the biosphere. but when a species evolves memes (the ability to communicate ideas that control behavior), the problems begin. our memes have gone off in completely different directions that have nothing to do with the balance of the biosphere anymore. our memes make us do things that are destructive to the biosphere itself.
