@mpdblotter To: Methuen Residents and Methuen Police Department employees and family. From time to time, as situations unfold, the vital information pertaining to an incident is shared with me from the PD and sometimes the full picture is not readily apparent when I post information in social media. Therefore, I would like to take a moment to publicly clarify my FB and social media postings surrounding last Friday’s pursuit and manhunt of armed individuals and acknowledge the work of Platoon III officers. As I reviewed the completed court packets in their entirety this week, I learned the important role Uniformed Patrol Platoon III Officer’s played in this incident. I became aware that Detective Captain McCarthy and Detective Sergeant Smith were working in the positions of patrol Commander and Supervisors on this evening, not in their roles in Detectives. Being in contact with both individuals led me to believe this was a Detective operation. Facebook posts did not accurately give credit to the important role the patrol division, and more specifically Platoon III had in this incident which led to the arrests of 3 violent fugitives and the recovery of a firearm. Officer Abraham was the initial officer who located and pursued the offending vehicle until which time it was involved in a collision with parked vehicles. Officer Abraham gave chase and subsequently apprehended Suspect Guzman. Upon returning to the vehicle, Officer Abraham discovered a second suspect trapped in the vehicle and with the assistance of Officers Ferreira and Blanchette, secured this suspect and furthermore secured a firearm left behind at the scene. As the remaining Platoon Officers maintained a perimeter, Officers Kannan and Intermittant Officer’s Hennrick subsequently located Suspect 3 in the rear of 138 Pelham Street. I would like to take a moment now and recognize all individuals involved, and the collaborative effort between bureaus to bring this incident to an positive ending without injuries to our officers and citizens. I apologize for not recognizing all involved from the beginning. Thank you to all our officers and support staff who on a daily basis kept us all safe. Chief Solomon.
