much ado about something (Teacher): Ive read many posts on this site regarding DCSDs teacher evaluation system, as well as all the money that has been spent to develop and implement that system. It has been pointed out that a total of 9 teachers were identified as ineffective. Heres my perspective, as a teacher with 21 years in the classroom in DCSD. Im betting that at least some of those 9 ineffective teachers were experienced, retiring teachers. Teachers impacting their students in a positive manner in their classrooms, teachers who decided that they were not going to spend a single minute jumping through hoops or uploading data to prove their effectiveness. Im betting that they decided to use their time to teach, to work with and help their students. Not to provide their evaluators with the data they needed to support the rating they would assign...data that was crucial, since those administrators evaluation of these teachers amount to 90 minutes of direct observation over the course of an entire school year. Heres an idea-lets ask DCSD how many of those 9 teachers were retiring veterans. Heres two final thoughts. 1) What do you think the chances are that there are way more than 9 truly ineffective teachers who are working hard to jump through hoops and present documentation that would suggest that they are rock stars when they are anything but? 2) How many evaluators would you guess have the time and the experience to actually be able to identify and deal with THOSE teachers?
