...much deliberation over sharing this...so, with a bit of my own twist applied, here goes: I strongly believe in each to their own and in do unto others; I believe political views and religious affiliations are like underpants in that most people subscribe to needing them but ones own should never be thrust in the face of others; I believe we are not all the same and thats as it should be and its beautiful; I believe when in Rome. I do not believe that stereotyping happens for no reason, yet also that the majority of a group cant be defined by stereotypes, that its individuals and small sections that create negative stereotypes as a rule. I believe that squeaky wheels often get the grease, and they shouldnt, they should be examined for the cause of the squeak and replaced if the squeak cant be fixed. I believe those that tolerate differences more readily are often taken advantage of for their accepting nature; that rose colored glasses, without awareness, result in being burned with having never seen the burn coming. I believe that as a Canadian, and as a nation of Canadians, I, and we, need to remain polite and loving, welcoming, understanding of, and cognizant regarding the places our highly varied population comes from, but I also believe that nobody gets to come into my home and tell me which way I will place my toilet paper roll on its dispenser, as no group ought be allowed to tell this country which way it must place its roll. If they want to be living like theyve never left home, wherever that may be, go back; go back and fuss with your own roll of toilet paper there, dont bring me your roll and expect me to change how I wipe to make you happy. And if home also rejects your papering practices, maybe your papering practices should be re-examined. Unassuming and Canadian go hand in hand and Im proud of that large and gentle stereotype: lets never let complacency enter that, as it is certain, as in all things, to be our Achilles. I truly admire Australias gtfo if youre going to cause problems approach ... maybe its time for Canada to stand up and dust off.
