musicians - why isnt there a name for a chord that adds/utilizes the note between the 4th and the 5th in a scale. For example, if you are playing in the key of C major, and you add an F note, its a Cadd4 or Csus4. If you add the 5th note, its a C5. But if I were to add an F#, what would you call it? Would it be a Cmaj4? Or a Cm5th?Or a Cb5? Yes, it would be horribly dissonant...but every note combination is technically a chord of some kind. So what is it?
