my boy is 11 years old, today he had his ultrasound which found a tumor on his spleen, also a 2 cm tumor on his liver. what prompted me to get an utrasound was the fact that his CBC showed elevated liver enzymes (my dog will be blood tested for possible cushings disease as well, on Saturday). At the age of 7 yrs he was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus. The problem is removing a spleen from a dog who has auto-immune diseases. How can he fight infection without a spleen???.. i understand the spleen functions for this purpose? These test are being conducted at a Specialty hospital, so all the Vets are Board Certified in their particular speciality. The Doctor today is an internal medicine specialist. The steps they are taking are as follows: 1) verify if he has cushings disease, 2) do a chest X-ray on his lungs to determine if there is signs of metastasis in the lungs 3) operate on and remove his spleen, and liver nodule. (IM FREAKING OUT, you guys)... i dont want to do any surgery at all if it has already metastasized, .. OR would that bide him some quality time?.... or possibly have a miracle, that it would ultimately be benign in the end? But, based on what ive read on your blog.. they seem to all be cancers of some kind or another. I never even heard of Spleen tumors before today. Like all of you who wrote here, my dog is my soul mate, my everything... I cant bare this. Anyway, ... im writing to vent as well as get some advice. What would you guys recommend? thanks for listening...
