my grandfather, Joseph Mirabello, at his Modern Shoe Repair Store - TopicsExpress

my grandfather, Joseph Mirabello, at his Modern Shoe Repair Store a little down past the corner of South St. & Union Avenue. (1940s). Brought his skill over from Pentone (Calabria), Italy, back in the 1920s and could take a piece of leather and turn into a fine shoe and repair any shoes/ boots and sometimes wouldnt charge for his work. A band of gypsies hung around that area and would often ask my grandfather if they could use his bathroom. There was a nice black gentleman that operated a tailorshop a few doors over on Nelson Avenue....Nats Tailors....
