my open letter to Dan Brayack: Dan: Just got off the phone - TopicsExpress

my open letter to Dan Brayack: Dan: Just got off the phone with my good buddy Chris Schmick, and got the run down on the latest Southern Illinois guidebook published by your company. As the publisher, I was hoping you could shed a bit of light on your decision to not allow Chris to put an ad in the upcoming book. Let me give you my Cliffnote version of the events, and feel free to clarify and fill in: Yusuf worked for Chris at Upper Limits. Yusuf jumped ship to the SoIl gym when it opened to coach their team. Chris and Yusuf had a non compete, and both sides hired attorneys. After a decent amount of cash went to the legal eagles, Chris decided to not take it to court and Yusuf started working at SoIll gym. Chris said the Soill climbing team was welcome at the gym, but Yusuf had burned that bridge. Fast forward: Yusuf is collecting the data for a new guidebook and you are publishing it. Yusuf has said If you put an ad from Chris in the book, I am not doing the book....Is that correct? As the publisher, isnt it your job to collect ad revenue and then get the book in the hands of the public? Is Yusuf using past perceived slights to hold you by the testicles? Doesnt it feel the least bit weird to piss on the guys who put Jackson Falls on the map? Between Schmick, Ulner, Brotherton, Payne, Carrier, etc, is there no allegiance to those shoulders from which we work? As the publisher, isnt it your job to wade thru the bullsh**, and sell ads and tell the parties to grow up? Do we really want a book on the shelves that wont pay homage to those bolting routes before the latest author was probably even out of Underoos? ( a subtle plug for my own classic Jackson route). I can promise you I wont buy a book that I know has intentionally ignored the contributions of one the best developers in all of Illinois. What sort of message does that send? Sounds like a high school clique has formed at my beloved Jackson Falls, and if you refuse to put an ad in the book for Upper Limits, then I will also choose to with hold my cash from your pocket. I thank you for your time and look forward to your response. Respectfully, Pigsteak
