my own thoughts with the inspiration of a week of retreat and inspiring reflections approaching death from Daniel Davis, zichrono lvracha: On retreat last week I reflected on the term the human race. It seems our civilization has erred awfully, so caught up in the race that we end up just surviving, functioning, being carried along by the inertia of social norms, the momentum of the herd dictating the warp and woof of our lives, by habit and unexamined assumption. I believe our primary task, and indeed the true calling in the path of Torah and avodah(spiritual practice), is to restore the human to its priority of place amidst the race, to be able to present in answer to the fundamental and perennial question, Ayeka?
