my part from visual symphony has been uploaded to youtube! brings back some good memories... this was filmed in the 90s when i was still riding salomons. they werent cool at the time, even though they were lightyears ahead of all other brands. salomon was too big of a company to be cool. forget about better quality and better business practices. ironic that now everyone is so caught up with getting that mainstream attention again! i was probably most proud of the true backslide as it was something very rare those days. and i guess, still is. i remember being annoyed at rileys editing of this section with some sort of meaningless effect over almost every shot. over-editing is still something that im not into. especially overdo-ing slow motion. skating is fast and fluid, slowing it down should be a very rare choice. the second half of the section is all at the swan rail in saskatoon. this spot was 2hours+ from regina and usually a 20 minute bust, but probably the only decent rail in that whole radius. the rail has since been raised a few inches in height and had some nasty caps welded on. we had so few spots in regina that when we found a good one like this, wed drive hours just to session and try everything we could possibly do on it. its a bit boring and repetitive to see the same spots so much, but thats what happens when you live somewhere like regina. i think the reason my friends and i got so technical was that we had nothing to skate. when youre forced to skate the same three spots every day, learning new things is one of the best ways to keep it fun and exciting. some of the night clips from the swan rail (full soyales, etc) are from halloween that year. we figured there may be less security on staff or theyd be busier with halloween antics. so while everyone else was partying, we had one of the best sessions of our lives over there. actually thats one of the common themes of skating for me in those years. it kept me out of trouble. instead of partying all the time, i was travelling to distant cities and making new friends. ok i guess thats all for now. if you enjoyed this little story, lemme know and ill keep posting behind the scenes from old and new parts.
