my sister who resides in #Mpape a surburb of #Abuja called me as early as 4AM today, saying news just reached her that some persons came from various villages with the pernicious decease called #Ebola and that people should bathe in palm oil and salt to prevent the virus from denuding the innocent people of Nigeria. My first question to her was, How true is the news? I quickly took it with a pinch of salt as one can only contact the virus through direct contact with those infected. People should not be deceived acting as unlearned. But then, as an enlightened person whos a #SocialMediaCrus ader and believed that such messages are oftentimes mere rumors either from BBM Broadcast and other means, quickly took to #SocialMeadia , #FederalMinistry OfHealth website, #WHO website, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) website where the virus emanated from and even #YahooNews and local broadcasting stations/ network amongst others, then I realized that some demented follows have decided to add fuel to the flames of the Ebola virus putting people in fear. People should desist from making people feel there are ants in their pants. or make them feel like a cat on hot bricks. If youre uncertain and probably have not done your research to find-out the truth about an information, dont mention it because it would be like red flag to a bull. Ignorance and poverty, as well as entrenched religious and cultural practices, continue to exacerbate the spread of the disease, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia President said. With the death toll mounting in the region, Liberias president announced a state of emergency late Wednesday and said it may result in the suspension of some citizens rights. She lamented that fear and panic had kept many family members from sending sick relatives to isolation centers. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization began a meeting to decide whether the crisis, the worst recorded outbreak of its kind, amounts to an international public health emergency. At least 932 deaths in four countries have been blamed on the illness, with 1,711 reported cases. Here is the simple truth: Ebola, which causes some victims to bleed from the eyes, mouth and ears, can only be transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone who is sick — blood, semen, saliva, urine, feces or sweat. Symptoms of Ebola are: fever, muscle aches and vomiting — which are similar to much more common tropical diseases such as malaria. (YahooNews) To prevent oneself from this disease, wash your hand with soup regularly and ensure cleanliness. Youre barking up the wrong tree if you keep spreading false rumor about Ebola.
