my white friend dressed up as frida kahlo for character day a while ago and i just saw the picture now, and tbh i was so disappointed to see that. shes such an amazing person, and i know she had good intentions, but frida kahlo was a beautiful disabled latina feminist, whos art was gorgeous and known across the world. its sad to see how shes whitewashed enough in media as it is, but to see a friend of mine, an able-bodied white girl dressing up as frida kahlo, a woman of color who was indeed disabled, just really irks me. it was very racist and bigoted, and really offensive as well. i know she didnt mean to put it across like that at all, but that just really isnt okay. sorry im just a lil mexican girl who had to rant for a lil bit
