n the last month, I have spoken to parents in the Hudson Valley, Eastern Long Island, Philadelphia and Brooklyn Heights about Testing and Common Core. Among people of varying demographic profiles and political views, there is a growing realization that test and data driven education policies have catastrophic consequences for many children and families, and also represent a threat to civil liberties and democratic governance. There are, and will be, challenges holding this emerging parent coalition together. But it is fast becoming one of the most powerful grass roots movements in American society. It already is exerting influence on state legislatures, and will soon begin to influence Congress. And it may well have a major impact on the 2016 Presidential election.
