needs to take a moment to discuss Gayles Rules of internet - TopicsExpress

needs to take a moment to discuss Gayles Rules of internet etiquette. Im a friendly gal, and I love to meet new folks, and I love to support other authors. However, in recent days, Ive experienced the following: 1. A person I friended on FB, who may be a perfectly nice person, wants to talk via the Messages. Im okay with this if you have a question. But a message of Hi from someone Im not that familiar with leaves me without a response, except Hi back and I always fear this will draw me down some rabbit hole of casual conversation that will keep me from doing anything else all evening. When I dont see any other activity from this person on FB, then I get a little wary. 2. I received an email from someone I only vaguely know via a friend-of-a-friend in that six degrees of Kevin Bacon way (truthfully, I had to look him up and I still dont know if Ive ever met him), and hes advertising his new book. Im not unsympathetic. I get it. He needs to publicize his book. But I feel somehow invaded - yes, my email address is easily obtained. How did I make his list, though? Here are my rules: 1) Im happy to message back if youve actually got a question for me, and 2) Im happy to support your new book if I actually know who you are. Am I expecting too much?
