#news Eurozone Leading Index Flat In September: The leading economic indicators index for the eurozone that reflects performance of the economy in the near term remained unchanged in September, the results of a survey by the Conference Board showed Monday. The Conference Board leading index remained flat month-over-month in September after the 0.6 percent drop in August. The Conference Board coincident economic index, a measure of current economic activity, was also unchanged in September, the same as in August. Bert Colijn, Senior Economist at the Conference Board, said that the majority of the sub-indices for the leading index have still not returned to positive territory and that the six-month growth rate dipped below zero for the first time since November 2012. The business and consumer confidence indicators have stopped declining further, so there is a chance that the recent deterioration in industrial production and manufacturing turnover will end in the near future, Colijn said. Even so, overall GDP growth is unlikely to strengthen much in the coming months. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if last weeks ECB stimulus hike will boost investors confidence in financial markets.
