news from todays news paper about ugat Applying for an Integrated Management course IMBA is a rewarding course for making a career in business management and administration PREPARATION MOHAMMAD MUSAIB BABA SmallerDefaultLarger Many students who were declared successful in the recent 10+2 level examination may have a desire to go for five-year integrated management course, IMBA. It is a blend of two courses, B.B.A and M.B.A. It is the best course for those who want to make their career in business management and administration. In the month of February, some students, who recently qualified the 12th class examination, wanted to know about the procedure for the application of IMBA course. They also wanted some handy tips to crack the entrance exam. Similarly there are other students around the valley who also may not be aware of the procedure of applying for the said course. First of all the candidates should have cleared 12th boards or must possess equivalent degree to be eligible for an IMBA course. The candidates aspiring to apply for admission to Integrated Management course of the University of Kashmir must appear in the under Graduate Aptitude Test (UGAT) examinations conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) and submit the score cards as and when the University of Kashmir issues notification for the admission of this course. However, after the submission of score cards, students have to face Group discussion (G.D) and Personal Interview (P.I) which is separately held by the Kashmir University. Now there’s the question of how the merit list is prepared. It is prepared on two basic components. Academic merit and entrance test merit, assigning 30 marks to the former and 70 marks to latter (entrance test merit). However, entrance test merit is made up of three things viz. UGAT score, Group discussion and Personal interview. The entrance test merit, therefore, is worked as UGAT score. To put it in much simpler form, 75 percent of 70 equals to 52.50 marks are assigned to UGAT score, G.D is assigned 15 percent, of 70 which comes to 10.5 marks; and the remaining 7 marks are assigned to P.I. As it is clear from the above analysis, the highest weightage is given to UGAT score, 75 percent of entrance test merit. So, students should try to put their best to score high in UGAT examinations. The paper is comprised of four subjects (1) English language, (2) numerical and data analysis, (3) Reasoning and (4) General Knowledge. The English language constitutes 40 questions and 30 questions each of the rest of the three subjects. Thus, paper will be composed of a total of 130 questions with 2 hours allotted time. Planning and dedication are the keys to do well. First students should plan a timetable for study keeping in mind their respective strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, they should reserve some time for revision and solving sample papers. Solving sample papers not only prepares students for the examination but also helps to assess the speed of doing questions as proper management of time is a must in any competitive examination. Thus, students, while solving sample papers, must keep a stopwatch to learn the skills of managing time. Above all, do not worry and always stick to the basics. Reading the daily newspaper, magazines and novels will enrich not only the vocabulary of the students but also their general awareness. Students can go through many entrance books like R S Agarwal, MAT entrance book or even they can learn from internet how to do the mathematical questions in no time like rainbow multiplication. Now, coming to numerical abilities, try to solve the questions in an intelligent manner. For instance, if you have to multiply any two digit numbers both of which should not exceed 20, say, 15 and 12. Just put your hand on this piece and do it in usual way on a page. Are you done with it? Now see how you can solve the same in few seconds. (15x10)+ (15X2) = 150+30 which equals 180. There is another way of doing the same question quick as a flash. First, add up any one number say 15 with that of the digit of second number at units place i.e. 2. Thus, the sum will come to 17 i.e.15+2. Second, multiply the unit place digits of two numbers (5x2) which equals to 10. As 10 is two digit numbers, add the tens place digit which in our example is 1 with 7, which we have found at first step. So, in all, we have 1 7(+1) and 0, therefore, the answer is 180. Likewise, 11X11 will come to 121 by first; adding 11 and units place digit of second number i.e. 1, the answer will be (11+1) 12 and then multiply units place digits of two numbers, 1x1 which comes up to 1. In this example, the aftermath of multiplication didn’t come two digit numbers. Put together the outcome of first and second step, therefore, the answer will be 121. Isn’t it easy and quicker way to do multiplication? Practice the following: 15X15, 19X13, 16x18 and cross check your outcomes by usual way of multiplication. There are various shortcut methods for various numerical ability topics like trains movements, time and distance, problems based on ages. One must go through quicker Maths by M.Tyra to solve mathematical questions in a jiffy. For the information of students, the tentative date for the forthcoming UGAT test is 10th May, 2014 and the last date for online application is 30th April, 2014. At last, I would like to say that students should work hard and smart and they will definitely reap the rewards. And if even after working round the clock your name doesn’t figure in the qualifying list, you shouldn’t be disappointed as success often follows failure.
