newspaper report on BRUNNER AND WIFE ETHEL continued.....The labourite and socialist DAILY HERALD prints a remarkable story of the visit of MRS BRUNNER to its office late TUESDAY night(died following FRIDAY)She asked to see the editor about the recent big merger ,which,in addition to her husbands concern included THE NOBEL INDUSTRIES;THE BRITISH DYESTUFFS CORPORATION and the UNITED ALKALI COMPANY ,manufacturers of chemicals;dyestuffs;explosives and allied commodities.When the editor reluctantly left his desk at the busies hour,MRS BRUNNER spread a newspaper before him and called his attention to the story of the merger,she asked sharply.Have you noticed anything odd about that ? the editor replied that he knew about the merger.But you dont see my husbands name-it is not there.MRS BRUNNER said.(why would any man want to kill a wife that goes out of her way to protect him and his interests?.)She went on to say her husband had built the BRUNNER MOND business,and diluted on his busy life work in it;How she had shared his work,choosing to dwell in the dreary town of norwich when she might of luxuriated insouthern france.(this can be forgiven as northwich was once called thus.)She was evidently much upset by the changing business arrangement,although not excited or hysterical (Thinking of blowing the whistle ,perhaps.)...I am not concerned ,She declared.only for my husband.I am not a socialist ,but i feel very deeply for our workers in NORWICH.We have done our best to look after them.Under the merger they are certain to sufferbined are soulless. (remember the salt mines ended soon after the sinking of the last,the ADELAIDE mine.)..Then with apologies for taking up the editors time,she tacked off a novel she had written;of her life;her family;her husband,who she mentioned affectionately.(Three days before her death she had no apparent fear of her husband and her safety around him.)...and other matters,and then suddenly recurred to the merger,saying there was nothing wrong with the BRUNNER MOND INDUSTRY.(Why did she feel the need to say that?.)...and that the merger was quite unnecessary .(Her thoughts on that could have been her and her husbands undoing.)...she kept up a vivacious talk as the editor conducted her to the street.Is that your car?.he asked....Yes,she replied...but i dont know how long it will be ours.(This is odd as they are in the process of spending considerable sums redecorating their large home with no money concerns-and none ever came to light.Could it be she was implying that she and her husband might not be around much longer and /or blowing the whistle would render them bankrupt.)...She was a pioneer in GREAT BRITAIN of the SPAHLINGER treatment for tuberculosis,And energetic in other charitable activities.She and her equally energetic husband ,though of variable temperament ,due to ill health from which he has suffered(Stress of knowledge,perhaps.)...which sometimes led to misunderstandings(Stress does that to you.)..are described as devoted to each other at heart.(not a reason to kill in my book.)true story with my thoughts-decide for yourself.
